"The Police are hand-in–glove with anti-social elements who are vending out TASMAC liquor illegally near highways against the Supreme Court directive, which banned the sale of liquor near Highways", said J. Ravindran District Secretary of DYFI.
In a statement issued here J.Ravindran said that the police have targeted the Democratic Youth Federation of India functionaries and cadres for organizing protests against the practice of sale of liquor near High ways even after the closure of TASMAC outlets abetting the highway stretches.
“The police have foisted false cases on DYFI functionaries despite the court directive that the protestors voicing their democratic opinion against the liquor sales should not be harassed or taken to task. The DYFI has organized a public protest against clandestine sale of liquor near Singanallur bus stand, due to which false cases were foisted of DYFi cadres” Ravindran said in his statement.
“The police instead should arrest the miscreant who are carrying out liquor sale in highways after hoarding it and failing to do so would amount to contempt of court directive” the statement further said.
